What MWC means for the city’s mobility
The Mobile World Congress brings tens of thousands of tech professionals from around the world to Barcelona every year. During the four days of the event, plus the days before and after, the city sees a constant flow of meetings, side events, corporate dinners and transfers between hotels, restaurants, conference venues and the Fira Gran Via and Fira Montjuïc fairgrounds. The result is exceptional transport demand that stretches the entire metropolitan fleet.
Why to book in advance
During MWC week, hailing a taxi at nine in the morning outside a hotel is far harder than in a regular week. Ranks in strategic areas can run dry at specific times, particularly at the start and end of the fairground day. Booking several days ahead, ideally when confirming the trip to Barcelona, guarantees the vehicle at the desired time and lets you plan the agenda calmly.
Key transfers during the congress
The most-demanded transfers are: airport to hotel on arrival, hotel to Fira Gran Via each morning, Fira to hotel or to corporate dinners at the end of the day, transfers between Fira Montjuïc (4YFN) and Fira Gran Via, and return to the airport on the final day. For all of them, closed fares or hourly hires prevent surprises and simplify logistics. Companies with a corporate account can centralise these services into a single monthly invoice.
Corporate accounts for exhibitors
For companies with a booth or delegation during MWC, setting up a one-off corporate account for the week solves the management of multiple employees, VIP guests and suppliers. It allows sending taxis to clients with a single-use code, planning back-to-back transfers between meetings, and reserving minivans for team moves. At the end of the event, the company receives a single invoice with full detail.
Premium services and VIP attention
For executives and senior delegations, some fleets offer premium services with high-end vehicles, multilingual drivers and details such as bottled water, on-board Wi-Fi or welcome materials. Booking with plenty of notice is essential: these vehicles are a limited slice of the fleet and fill up very fast during MWC week.
Day-to-day logistics at Fira
The official taxi rank at Fira Gran Via operates under specific regulation during MWC, with staff organising queues and dispatch. If you have a prebooking, the driver meets you at a specific point communicated in advance, avoiding the wait. For meetings outside Fira straight after a session, booking with a fixed time has the driver waiting at the right pavilion exit.
After MWC: heading home
On the final day of the congress, thousands of professionals leave Barcelona at once. The airport experiences one of the busiest days of the year. Booking the outbound taxi with a flat fare and a fixed time, with at least a couple of hours of margin over the flight, is the wise call. If your hotel is in the centre, plan extra time to reach the Ronda Litoral under dense traffic.
Tips for attendees
Keep the taxi confirmation code on your phone. Tell the driver the booth name or specific meeting room when moving inside Fira: the venue is huge. For corporate dinners in city-centre restaurants, book the return to the hotel for a specific time: leaving large dinners and finding a free taxi on the street can be hard. And if you stay in La Barceloneta or by the port, journeys to Fira Gran Via are long: plan plenty of time for the morning keynotes.
